Doug DuCharme has written a charming story about a close family and their beloved four legged companions.
This engaging tale contains several important lessons for people of all ages.
First of all it demonstrates the values of family life and love.
Secondly it teaches the responsibility of loving and protecting our four legged friends.
The result is an important lesson for all of us. Love your family, protect and love your pets, and have respect for all of God’s creatures.
A child or a person who understands these concepts is or will become a person to be proud of and admire.

The Adventures of Lexi and Boomer is told from the perspective of a cheerful young girl, Marissa, who describes her close companionship with her family dogs. The story begins with the introduction of Marissa, her two dogs, grandparents and parents.
After a few pages, readers learn how Boomer was rescued from the streets, and how Lexi was adopted later from an animal shelter. Both dogs grow to love each other and become “part of the family.”
This charming and original story has wonderful intentions, introducing children to pet adoption and blended families. The importance of family is highlighted throughout this heartwarming book, as new family members and relationships are introduced.
The endearing illustrations are well-done and will keep young children’s interests. Entertaining and easy to read, children of all ages will enjoy this story no matter if they have a close relationship with a pet or would like to. The bond between a young girl and her dogs is a sweet one, and their continued adventures will surely keep children looking forward to the next one. This is a perfect book for any young child.

Doug DuCharme’s and Deryl Skelton’s “The Adventures of Lexi and Boomer” is a warm, feel-good story of love – love of people for dogs, love of dogs for people, and especially love of a grandfather for his baby granddaughter.

“The Adventures of Lexi and Boomer – FAMILY” is a touching story reflecting what those of us who have pets know – animals are as much a part of a family as people. It is a good read-aloud book for young students and contains words that will make for a good vocabulary discussion.

A good read-aloud book is a surefire way to grab the attention of my Kindergarten students. “The Adventures of Lexi ad Boomer” is just such a book. It contains characters all young students can relate to – Marissa, an adorable little girl near their own age, and two loveable dogs. The illustrations are well done and add to this book’s charm. Children of all ages will enjoy learning about the adventures of Marissa, Lexi and Boomer.
